Pilot admits 'up-skirt' pictures of teen

PHILADELPHIA, July 28 (UPI) -- A US Airways pilot has been sentenced to a year on probation for "up-skirt" photos of a teenager at Philadelphia International Airport.

Joseph Pereira, 55, of Wexford near Pittsburgh entered a negotiated guilty plea Tuesday in Family Court, the Philadelphia Daily News reported. The terms of his probation include a psychological evaluation and monitoring of his computer as well as payment of $2,200 to his victim's family.

Pereira admitted using his cell phone to get the pictures in June at a store inside the airport terminal.

US Airways has suspended him and said no decision will be made on his job until its own investigation is finished.

James Carpenter, assistant chief prosecutor with the family violence and sexual assault unit, called Pereira's conduct "disturbing and offensive."

"He clearly understands he has a problem, and he is being treated for it," Carpenter said. "He has made the victim feel very insecure and caused her difficulties."

Pereira has also given up a part-time job as a girl's basketball coach.
