Nora brings heavy rain across northwest Mexico

Aug. 27 (UPI) -- Hurricane Nora on Sunday night was dumping heavy rain across northwest Mexico and was forecast to continue to do so for the next couple of days, the National Hurricane Center said.

In its 9 p.m. CDT update, the NHC said Nora's center was about 90 miles southeast of Los Mochis, and was moving north-northwest at 19 mph with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph. Hurricane conditions could persist through Monday.

A tropical storm warning was in effect for Bahia Tempehuaya to Topolobampo, Mexico,

Nora is moving toward the north-northwest and is expected to maintain this trajectory until it dissipates inland in 24 to 48 hours, the forecasters said.

"Nora is forecast to weaken inland during the next day or so," it said.

Hurricane Nora made landfall on Mexico's Pacific coast Saturday night.
