(UPI) -- Sultan Kosen, the world's tallest man, married a Syrian woman over 2-feet shorter than he is on Saturday.

At 5 feet 8 inches, Kosen's wife Mervi Dibo, 20, is not a short lady, but standing next to her 8-foot-3-inch husband she hardly reaches his waist.

"How unfortunate I could not find a suitable girl of my own size. My fiancée is over 1.75 meters tall, but I believe I've found the person for me," he said.

Born in southeastern Turkey, Kosen, 31, rose to fame in September 2009 after Guinness World Records declared him the tallest man in the world. His growth is a result of a tumor that affects his pituitary gland.

Besides his record height, Kosen also holds the Guinness record for his nearly 9-inch-wide hands and feet that are over 14 inches long.
