'Dangerous Liaisons': Lesley Manville, Carice Van Houten join cast

June 16 (UPI) -- Lesley Manville, Carice van Houten, Paloma Faith and more have joined the cast of Starz's upcoming television adaptation of Dangerous Liaisons.

Michael McElhatton, Kosar Ali, Nathanael Saleh, Hakeem Kae-Kazim, Hilton Pelser, Mia Threapleton, Colette Dalal Tchantcho, Lucy Cohu, Fisayo Akinade, Maria Friedman and Clare Higgins will also star.

Dangerous Liaisons is based on Pierre Laclos' novel of the same name about Marquise de Merteuil and Vicomte de Valmont who meet as young lovers on the eve of the French Revolution.

Alice Englert will portray Marquise de Merteuil, who has been renamed Camille. Nicholas Denton will star as Vicomte de Valmont, who has been renamed to Pascal Valmont.

Manville will portray Camille's mentor Genevieve de Merteuil, Houten will portray noblewoman Jacqueline de Montrachet who has a mysterious connection to Camille, and Faith will portray fiery noblewoman Florence de Regnier.

The series is written, executive produced and created by Harriet Warner (Tell Me Your Secrets, Call the Midwife).

Leonora Lonsdale (The Pale Horse, Beast) will direct the first four episodes. Coline Abert, James Dormer and Rita Kalnejais also serve as writers.
