GAINESVILLE, Ga., Oct. 3 (UPI) -- An Atlanta area elementary school teacher's aide was fired by her district on Monday for criticizing first lady Michelle Obama in a recent social media post that came off as racially insensitive.
Forsyth County Schools announced on its Facebook page it had terminated educator Jane Wood Allen after her post generated major outrage in the community and subsequently across the United States.
"Effective Monday, Oct. 3, Jane Wood Allen has been relieved from duty and is no longer an employee of Forsyth County Schools," the district's post stated.
Allen had worked as a paraprofessional, or teacher's aide, at Chestatee Elementary School in Gainesville, about 50 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta.
Allen received backlash because her post slammed Obama, calling her a "disgrace to America" and lamenting, "how is she going to function in the real world, by not having all of her luxurious vacations paid for anymore?"
Allen, a Caucasian, also used a racial epithet in the posting to describe the two-term first lady.
"Racism and discrimination are not tolerated in our school district," the Forsyth district said in its post. "We are committed to ongoing staff training on the acceptance of all individuals."
Allen's post also said, "she needs to focus on getting a total makeover (especially the hair) instead of planning vacations."
The inflammatory post was ultimately deleted, but not before many saw it and expressed outrage.
"Thank You Forsyth County Schools! This type of racist should NEVER work in the school system again," one person remarked on the district's post Monday.
