Steven Yeun joins cast of sci-fi thriller 'Okja'

SEOUL, April 22 (UPI) -- Steven Yeun has signed on to star in Netflix's upcoming sci-fi thriller, Okja.

According to Deadline Hollywood, The Walking Dead star joins director Bong Joon Ho's anticipated follow-up to 2013's Snowpiercer as principal photography on the film began in Seoul, South Korea.

Yeun will be seen alongside a star-studded cast that includes Tilda Swinton, Jake Gyllenhaal and Paul Dano. Lily Collins, Devon Bostick, Byun Heebong, Shirley Henderson, Daniel Henshall, Yoon Je Moon and Choi Wooshik round out the cast.

Okja follows a young girl named Mija "who must risk everything everything to prevent a powerful, multi-national company from kidnapping her best friend – a massive animal named Okja," reads the film's official synopsis.

"With Okja I want to show the beauty that can exist between man and animal, and also the horror between them," said Bong in a statement.

Okja is set to premiere on Netflix in 2017.

It is still unknown if Yeun's fan-favorite Walking Dead character Glenn is still alive on the series following the zombie drama's mysterious blood-soaked Season 6 ending in which an unknown major character was killed.
