LOS ANGELES, Sept. 15 (UPI) -- Robin Thicke admits to alcohol and drug abuse in a deposition released to the public Monday.

The 37-year-old singer revealed he was drunk and high on Vicodin when he, Pharrell Williams and T.I. recorded "Blurred Lines." Thicke was given 18 to 22 percent of publishing royalties for the hit single, but admitted Williams "wrote almost every single part of the song."

"It became a huge hit and I wanted credit," he conceded. "So I started kind of convincing myself that I was a little more part of it than I was."

"This is what happens every day in our industry," Williams confirmed separately. "You know, people are made to look like they have much more authorship in the situation than they actually do."

Thicke, Williams and T.I. preemptively sued Martin Gaye's family after the singer's children accused the trio of copying "Got to Give It Up" for "Blurred Lines." Thicke previously told GQ the song inspired the single, but dismissed the statement in the deposition by claiming he was high at the time of the interview.

Thicke said estranged wife Paula Patton left him after he told her the truth about his role in the song. The singer asserted he has been sober for many months, but later clarified he's given up Vicodin but not alcohol.
