AUSTIN, Texas, Sept. 15 (UPI) -- A new attack ad from the Wendy Davis campaign accuses her Republican opponent in the Texas gubernatorial election of ignoring allegations of abuse.

The ad, released Monday by the Democratic candidate's campaign, accuses state Attorney General Greg Abbott of doing nothing over accusations of sexual abuse at a state-run boys' school in 2005.

"Young boys at a state run school are sexually abused," the ad, titled "Time Went By," says. The ad claims Abbott "does nothing" after 11 months and notification from a Texas ranger. The ad also goes on to accuse Abbott of shady dealings in the closure of a juvenile detention center in 2010, after two former administrators became involved in an abuse scandal.

"What insider was Greg Abbott covering up for this time?" the ad says.

While the Abbott campaign did not immediately respond to Monday's ad, in August, it defended the candidate over allegations Abbott had sided with a corporation against a rape victim in a high-profile case.

"No one has a stronger record fighting the heinous crime of sexual assault than Greg Abbott," the campaign said at the time.
