Taco Bell, the company that has already introduced you taco shells made of Doritos, will expand its test of the so-called "waffle taco" to 100 new locations this week.

The waffle taco will make up part of the fast food chain's "First Meal" breakfast menu, which also includes lighter options like yogurt and oatmeal.

"Our breakfast test menu reflects what our customers tell us they want from Taco Bell," a rep said in a statement. "So while they expect us to put a twist on the traditional tastes of breakfast with menu items like the Waffle Taco and AM Crunchwrap, they also want balanced options like oatmeal and yogurt parfait."

The company began testing the breakfast taco at five outlets in Southern California earlier this year, though the expansion to 100 new locations means that the new offerings are nearing a nationwide rollout.

The waffle taco, comprised of sausage, egg and a waffle shell, has received mixed reviews since its introduction earlier this year.

"By itself, the waffle is passably tasty," Erin Jackson, of Serious Eats, wrote in May. "Once I got far enough in to have a composed bite, the party was over. If they could, my taste buds would have called the cops."

Thrillist LA was more positive:

"The Waffle Taco sits a couple notches above your average fast-food breakfast item -- slightly sticky...but overall muy delicious."
